SmartyPig announced on Monday that it had brought on a new president, Scott McCormack, to replace CEO Bob Weinschenk, who is no longer with the company. McCormack came on board full-time with the Des Moines startup in November, joining the online social savings platform after a stint at TMS – smartOne Prepaid Solutions and before that, First National Bank in Omaha.
“His leadership and skill set will tremendously impact all of our initiatives, current and future,” SmartyPig co-founder Jon Gaskell (left) said in an email interview on Tuesday. “We could not be more excited to have him here.”
When asked if the difference in titles – Weinschenk served as CEO, and McCormack was announced as president – had any significance, Gaskell said McCormack can call himself whatever he wants. “It won’t change what he wants to get done and the level of confidence our investors and employees have in him.”

McCormack currently resides in Omaha and commutes daily. Gaskell said SmartyPig met him more than two years ago through operations related its prepaid card program. “(SmartyPig has) tried a number of times to get him to come help us run our company over that period of time,” Gaskell said. “We finally convinced him late last year.”
