GlamSnap and Wazoo both earned acclaim on a local level over the weekend, winning Startup Weekend Des Moines and Startup Weekend Kansas City, respectively. Now the Silicon Prairie’s two newest Startup Weekend winners are taking their act to a global stage.
Both teams are participating in Global Startup Battle, a competition for thousands of dollars worth of prizes that features the winners of the 137 Startup Weekend events held across the globe the last two weekends. The contest, held in conjunction with Global Entrepreneurship Week, is hosted by Startup Weekend, the Seattle-based organization that runs weekend-long events designed to teach participants the basics of launching a business.
So how does Global Startup Battle work? The winners of those 137 Startup Weekend events were given 24 hours after they won to submit 90-second videos and 15-word descriptions of their business ideas. Now, starting today at 2 p.m. CST and running through Tuesday, people can view those videos and cast one vote per day.
The top 15 vote-getters will advance to the final round, where a panel of judges that includes Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh and Foundry Group managing partner Brad Feld will choose the winning team.

That team will receive a package of services and support worth an estimated $35,000 and get VIP access to entrepreneurship conferences in San Francisco and Rio De Janeiro.
Public voting takes place on the Startup Weekend Facebook page. For authentication purposes, people must like Startup Weekend on Facebook to be eligible to vote.
