John Legend is coming to the CenturyLink Center on Feb. 28 but it’s not to sing in front of concert goers. Instead, it’s to speak to more than 1,500 young professionals and business leaders at the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce‘s Young Professionals Summit. Joining Legend as a keynote speaker for the annual event will be Pencils of Promise founder Adam Braun.
Both Legend, a member of TIME’s “100 most influential people” list in 2009, and Braun (right), one of Wired’s “50 people who will change the world” in 2012, are both social entrepreneurs in their own right. Legend, who’s best known for his musical talents, founded the Show Me Campaign, an initiative aimed at using education to break the cycle of poverty. And Braun’s orgaization, which he founded four years ago, works to bring quality education to children living in poverty around the world. Late last year, Braun announced Pencils of Promise had broken ground to build its 100th school.

In addition to Legend and Braun, attendees of the all-day event will have the opportunity to hear from more than a dozen speakers during three break-out sessions. Our own Jeff Slobotski is also involved in the event as the facilitator of the day’s final session, 20×20 talks. SecretPenguin’s Dave Nelson, q3 systems’ Michael Young and The Union for Contemporary Art’s Brigitte McQueen are a few of that session’s featured speakers.
Organized by the Chamber’s Greater Omaha Young Professionals, the event is open to the public – both young (“under 40”) and experienced professional alike.
