Other monthly subscription boxes for cyclists focus on nutrition. This one’s for equipment.
Craig Nashleanas and Christopher Halbkat, co-founders of Platte River Bicycle Goods, first met in 2012 at Halbkat’s custom bicycle build shop in Omaha.
“I was living in Dundee when I heard about a new local bike shop,” said Nashleanas. “I ended up having Christopher completely rebuild my 30 year old road bike that was handed down from my father. We’ve stayed friends ever since then, chatting bikes and business, and throwing ideas back and forth on how to collaborate.”
Out of that chance encounter, Nashleanas, a marketing consultant, and Halkat, bike shop owner and graphic designer, decided to combine their ecommerce and industry knowledge to create Platte River Bicycle Goods.

“It’s really a great partnership,” said Nashleanas. “Christopher knows the cycling industry so well. He knows the products that resonate with this community, and his eye for design carries over to the look and feel of our packs. With him owning product and customer experience, I can focus entirely on building awareness and acquiring customers.”
How the “Platte Pack” works
The “Platte Pack” includes tools for bicycle maintenance and repair, as well accessories, along with health items. The company hopes the offerings will appeal to those who participate in a few organized cycling events each year, as well as mountain bikers.
In addition to the monthly subscription pack, Platte River Bicycle Goods will offer a limited number of sale bundles each month and free product giveaways to their subscribers.
“We are all about helping cyclists affordably discover new gear that will help them perform better and enjoy their rides more,” said Halbkat.
The company plans to ship its first order on December 15th. Interested customers can subscribe for a box now.
