Interface School will teach a free, three-hour “Intro to the Web” workshop at Omaha Public Libraries.
The first class is Aug. 31 from 2-6 p.m. at the Abrahams Branch, 5111 N. 90th St, and you can register online.
Shonna Dorsey, co-founder of Interface School, will teach the course where participants will learn the basics of HTML and CSS by editing and publishing an existing website. Dorsey plans to offer the course the last Sunday of every month at different library branches. The class is part of an effort to raise awareness about careers in tech.
“These sessions will be a great way to reach different audiences and introduce coding to people in our community,” Dorsey said. “The great news is that these classes are open to the public and equipment will be available through the library to participants who do not have laptops.

These free sessions may be the introduction someone needs to begin the pursuit of a career in web development, she said. HTML, used to provide structure to webpages, and CSS, which applies visual elements like color, images and fonts to HTML, are considered the basics of web design.
