Leading up to the City of Omaha’s general election May 14, The Mastercraft will serve as the venue for two meet and greet events with mayoral candidates Jean Stothert (left) and Jim Suttle (right).

It’s important for the future of our city to have a mayor that not only understands, but supports Omaha’s high level of startup activity, which continues to increase. In order to assure progress in awareness and development of the startup and creative communities, it’s important to come together as a group to show a collective effort.

San Francisco’s tech community is doing a great job of rallying and lobbying for initiatives and candidates who support and collaborate with the community there, and it’s something that cities like Omaha and others in the Silicon Prairie can learn from for their own efforts. Check out the San Francisco Citizens Initiative for Technology and Innovation, a group that aims to leverage “the collective power of the tech sector as a force for civic action,” to learn about some of the city’s activities.

At the meet and greet events, you’ll hear each candidate’s views on what’s going right and what they would like to change, as well as have the opportunity to ask each of them questions.

The meet and greet with Stothert is 12-1 p.m. this Wednesday in The Mastercraft’s Living Room event venue. To learn more and RSVP, see the Facebook event page. The Suttle event is 12:30-1:30 p.m. May 3 in the same space. To learn more and RSVP, see the Facebook event page.

We hope you’ll be able to join us with your questions and thoughts for how we can continue building our city’s momentum and find areas in need of improvement.
