Dusty Reynolds is the co-founder of RaceNote, which created a desktop and mobile app dedicated to logging all the changes race car drivers make to the car, improving their “setup” notes and giving them the ability to share it with teammates and their car builders.

RaceNote scorecard

Discipline and accountability. I heard this phrase no less than 14 times in my first meeting with one of my advisors.

“Perhaps one of the biggest flaws I see in early stage companies is a lack of discipline and accountability. Don’t fall into this trap,” he continued.

Point taken.

“And if you’d like me to advise you, I’m gonna need data that allows me to see authentic metrics and key performance indicators that signal how your company is doing.”

Point taken. Again.

My homework at this point was twofold:

  1. Don’t run from accountability
  2. Build a company scorecard
