Prairie Portraits: Meet Adán Ortiz, Founder @ Receivos

Meet Adán Ortiz, Founder @ Receivos.

Receivos is a software company that aims to help businesses and travelers collect, digitize and manage expenses and contacts while on the go — such as receipts, business cards and mileage. Ortiz was a participant in the Techstars Founder Catalyst Global Spring 2026 Program.

What inspired you to become an entrepreneur or support other entrepreneurs?

As a business professional and a frequent traveler, I had trouble tracking my travel expenses.  When I looked for a solution as a founder, I realized the problem was 10 times worse for businesses. I saw a market dominated by expensive platforms that gatekeep essential features behind high costs or massive retainers.

I was inspired to build Receivos because new and scaling businesses shouldn’t have to sacrifice functionality just to stay on budget.

What advice would you give yourself if you could go back in time to when you were just starting out?

Your product/service will change day to day as new people try it, hear about it and provide feedback. So, it’s OK to adapt the product/service according to that information, especially when it comes directly from the buyer.

How do you stay motivated when things feel overwhelming — or stagnant?

I remember that every 60 seconds, I am one minute ahead of where I was before. Any bright idea, thought or doubt about your business is a positive direction toward improvement.

You are only stagnant if you completely walk away from the business and never give it a chance to show its growth.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve overcome and how did you overcome it?

Building on a budget was my biggest hurdle. I overcame this by trading traditional capital for mentorship.

I offered early-stage and pivoting professionals hands-on experience that a classroom can’t replicate. I gave them a secure space to sharpen their skills before making the next big move to their dream roles in the industry.

How can the Nebraska community support you?

We want to connect with Nebraska’s new and scaling businesses who have experience overpaying for expense tracking, whether from “a la carte” pricing or massive credit card retainers to unlock access for basic features.

We’d love for you to try Receivos and help us build a more cost-effective alternative for the community.
